Russian missile attack near Dnipro kills 2-year-old girl, injures 22 in Ukraine

ISTANBUL (AA) – At least one person was killed and 22 others were injured in a Russian missile strike in southeastern Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, the region’s governor said early Sunday.

“At night, a girl's body was found under the rubble of a house in Pidhorodne community. She just turned two years old. Sincere condolences to the family … 22 people were injured, 5 of them were children,” Serhiy Lysak said in a statement on Telegram.

He said that two two-story buildings were partially destroyed after a missile hit an area between the two buildings. Also, 10 private houses, a car, a shop, and gas pipelines were damaged, he added.

Lysak further said a Ukrainian missile defense system shot down two cruise missiles and an unmanned aerial vehicle over the region.

“The occupiers hit Nikopol with artillery. Two cars caught fire, the fires have already been extinguished. Three high-rise buildings, a restaurant and power lines were damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” he added.

The Russia-Ukraine war, now in its 16th month, has killed over 8,800 civilians and wounded more than 15,100, according to the latest UN figures.
