ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia’s state-owned multinational energy corporation Gazprom and the Mongolian government signed a memorandum of cooperation in the gas and oil sector during the firm’s delegation visit to Ulaanbaatar, the Russian energy giant said Tuesday.

Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller led a working delegation to Mongolia, where he met with President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Prime Minister Gombojavyn Zandanshatar, and Deputy Prime Minister Sainbuyangiin Amarsaykhan.

“In the presence of President Khurelsukh, Alexey Miller and Sainbuyangiin Amarsaykhan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Mongolia and Gazprom. The document is aimed at developing a partnership in the gas and oil sector,” Gazprom said in a statement.

The talks in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar focused on prospects for joint projects in the energy sector, with both sides highlighting long-term opportunities in natural gas cooperation.

Mongolia plays a key role in regional energy transit discussions, particularly regarding the proposed “Power of Siberia-2” pipeline project, which is expected to run from Russia to China through Mongolian territory.
