Rwandan police kill 3 suspected terrorists

KIGALI, Rwanda (AA) - Rwandan police said they killed three terrorists during a targeted operation in Rusizi, in the western part of the country, in a press release issued late Friday.

The suspects were shot dead while trying to escape the police, and three others at the scene were also arrested, the statement added.

Propaganda materials, including CDs, books, and a youth recruitment plan, were found at the scene, according to the statement.

Rwanda was already on a terrorist threat alert. On Thursday, the Rwandan police said they shot dead a “possible terrorist” during a three-hour shootout with police.

Last January, several people accused of being members of terrorist networks were arrested.

The Rwandan authorities have still not clarified the identity of the group or terrorist movements that threaten the country.

No terrorist attack has been recorded on Rwandan soil, with the exception of grenade attacks dating back to 2013 and formally assigned to the rebel Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), based in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
