Flights suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AA) – Saudi Arabia resumed direct flights to Erbil in northern Iraq’s Kurdish region on Wednesday after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A Saudi plane arrived at Erbil International Airport from Jeddah Airport on Wednesday, the state television reported.
Two flights are scheduled to be flown weekly between the kingdom and Erbil.
The Saudi television said flights between Baghdad and Jeddah airports will be resumed after finalizing the necessary procedures, without giving an exact date.
Saudi Arabia resumed regular flights to Iraq in 2017 after a 27-year suspension. Flights, however, were suspended in 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
