Second 24-hour tube strike leaves thousands of Londoners in commuting chaos

Buses, other public transport means, as well as roads overcrowded as 10,000 workers start new strike

LONDON (AA) – Thousands of Londoners on Thursday are looking for alternative ways to go to work as a second 24-hour metro strike hits the British capital.

Almost all London underground services are affected as they are suspended or running with major disruption.

Around 10,000 workers are joining the strike as they want better working conditions.

Transport for London (TfL) advised passengers to work from home or find alternative ways to travel, including walking and cycling if possible, or using buses and other trains available.

The first strike on Tuesday caused severe congestion on the roads, and queues at bus stops during rush hours. Many commuters were late for work and appointments.

Services will be running on London Overground, TfL Rail, DLR, London Trams, and National Rail as normal but they are expected to be overcrowded.

The RMT union of the striking workers said the industrial action went on because the TfL was "continuing refusal to give assurances on jobs, pensions and working conditions in the midst of an ongoing financial crisis driven by central Government."
