ISTANBUL (AA) – South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said on Monday that Seoul will seriously consider ways to help Ukraine rebuild after the war, Yonhap News reported.
Cho made the remarks during his first phone conversation with his Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, in which the two discussed bilateral relations and the regional situation.
Cho expressed Seoul's keen interest in developing peace talks amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to the South Korean Foreign Ministry.
He said South Korea is closely monitoring the situation in the region and will seriously consider ways to assist with postwar reconstruction, according to the ministry.
Sybiha, for his part, thanked Seoul for its continued support for Kyiv.
The two top diplomats also discussed the latest developments in Ukraine, as well as the international community's response.
They also pledged to maintain close communication during upcoming multilateral meetings, including the UN General Assembly later this month.
Notably, Sybiha stated on the US social media company platform X that the two ministers discussed "shared security threats" resulting from "deepening military-technical cooperation" between Russia and North Korea.
North Korea has sent around 15,000 troops and weapons to support Russia's war efforts since October, according to South Korea's spy agency.
It claimed Pyongyang lost approximately 2,000 troops in the Ukraine war.
