'Serbia ready to work with US on energy diversification'

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Serbia is ready to work together with the US on the diversification of its energy supplies, the president of the National Assembly of Serbia said Thursday.

Speaking at the conference "Serbian-American Relations: Energy Diversification Strategy," Ivica Dacic said that energy supplies are a key priority in international relations today and that Serbia is ready to work more intensively than before with the US on energy diversification.

"Serbia, therefore, keeps the door wide open to as many energy suppliers as possible, because that is in our best interest," Dacic said, adding Serbia must preserve the stability of its energy market through the dominant sources so far.

He said these are large projects and that reorientation "is not possible in the short term."

Serbia, which is almost entirely dependent on Russian gas and oil, has come under criticism for declaring neutrality in Russia’s war on Ukraine and refusing to impose sanctions on Moscow.
