BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Serbian on Wednesday set April 3 as the date for presidential, parliamentary, and some local elections.

"I want the campaign to take place in a democratic and fair atmosphere and to contribute to the stability of Serbia, to the future of Serbia and all its citizens," said Parliament Speaker Ivica Dacic.

Dacic added that he expects President Aleksandar Vucic to remain at his post until the end of May, when his term expires, regardless of the outcome of the April 3 vote.

Candidates for president have until March 12 to register.

Presidential elections, in line with the Constitution and the law, are called 90 days prior to the end of the current president’s term in office. Parliamentary and some local elections are scheduled for the same date.

Vucic last week dissolved parliament.

Local elections for councilors of several cities and municipalities, including the capital Belgrade, are also set for the same day.
