Serbian president to attend EU-Western Balkans summit

Aleksandar Vucic meets with EU’s special representative for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue in Serbian capital Belgrade

By Talha Oztürk

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Monday said he will attend the European Union-Western Balkans summit which will be held in Albania's capital Tirana on Tuesday.

Vucic’s remarks came after his meeting with Miroslav Lajcak, the EU's special representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, in the capital Belgrade.

He said that the reason to attend the summit is to protect the rights of the Serbs.

"We should not impose sanctions on Russia and the Kosovo issue will also be discussed. As my colleagues said, they will have an interlocutor to whom they will receive an answer,” Vucic said.

Previously, the Serbian president had announced that he would not attend the summit after the Kosovar government appointed a moderate Kosovo-Serbian politician as its new minister responsible for the country’s minorities.
