ISTANBUL (AA) - One person was killed, one remains unaccounted for, and 10 were injured in an explosion Monday at the US Steel Clairton Coke Works plant near Pittsburgh in the US state of Pennsylvania, according to media reports.
US media reports cited, Allegheny County Police Department as saying that the whereabouts of one person was unknown, while 10 were injured, though their current conditions are unclear.
"At this point, officials can confirm there has been one fatality in connection with this incident," Allegheny County Emergency Services and Police said in an earlier statement.
Emergency responders are conducting an active rescue operation for those trapped under rubble following the explosion at the facility.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said his administration is coordinating with local officials responding to the explosion.
The Clairton plant is the largest coking operation in North America and a major component of US Steel's Pennsylvania facilities.
