Student opens fire in college in Russian city of Anapa, killing guard and injuring 3 others

MOSCOW (AA) - One person was killed and three were injured in a shooting at an educational institution in the Russian city of Anapa in the southern Krasnodar region, authorities said on Wednesday.

Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram that a guard was killed trying to stop the perpetrator.

"As of now, there is one fatality, a security guard who was the first to take the hit. He reacted promptly and called law enforcement. He prevented the attacker from advancing further into the technical college," he said.

In a separate statement, the press service of the regional office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory said three people were injured when a student opened fire in the lobby of a technical college in Anapa.

The shooter was detained, it said.
