KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – One person was killed and several others were injured in a drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the city of Kurmuk in the Blue Nile state in southeastern Sudan, the city’s governor said Thursday.
Abdelati Mohamed Al-Faki said in a statement that RSF drones struck residential neighborhoods in Kurmuk on Wednesday evening, describing the attack as a deliberate targeting of civilians and their property.
He said the strike killed one civilian and wounded others, without specifying the exact number of those injured. The attack also disrupted operations at a local grain mill, he added.
Al-Faki condemned what he described as actions by the RSF and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North.
He, however, said the situation in Kurmuk remains under the control of the Sudanese army and that calm prevails in the area.
There was no immediate comment from the RSF on the governor’s remarks.
Sudan has been locked in a bloody conflict between the army and the RSF since April 2023, killing tens of thousands, displacing about 13 million people, and creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, according to UN reports.
