LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - A mysterious disease has killed 20 victims in a university in northern Nigeria, and left 20 others in the hospital, students told Anadolu on Wednesday.
School officials at the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA) said they have responded to the situation, isolating affected students and collaborating with health authorities to contain the spread of the disease.
“Yes, some of our students have died and others in the hospital but we do not know the cause yet. The Ministry of Health has cautioned us, and they have advised that there is a need to decongest students’ accommodation,” said Registrar Maimaru Alhaji Tilli.
Tilli added that he wrote to the Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, to investigate the cause of the outbreak and provide support to those affected.
Witnesses said those affected individuals had fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
As the investigation into the cause continues, the university urged students to remain calm and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
