KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - At least 11 people, including seven children, were killed when a car fell into a canal in northeast Pakistan on Friday evening, police and local media reported.

The incident took place in northeastern Sheikhupura district, located some 27 miles from Lahore, local broadcaster Dawn News reported.

The deceased also included three women.

The ill-fated vehicle fell into the canal due to over speeding, while negotiating a sharp turn, the channel reported quoting unnamed area police officials.

Broken fencing along the portion of the canal was also cited as another reason for the accident.
