DIYALA, Iraq (AA) - Iraqi forces on Tuesday killed two Daesh suicide bombers in Iraq’s eastern Diyala province, according to a local police source.
“Army troops and Hashd al-Shaabi fighters found the two bombers in an abandoned house in Diyala’s Miqdadiyah district near the Hamrin Mountains,” Police Captain Habib al-Shammari told Anadolu Agency.
“Following a brief exchange of fire, both bombers were killed,” al-Shammari recounted, adding that no Iraqi security personnel had been injured or killed in the incident.
Late last year, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh’s military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled.
Nevertheless, it appears that the notorious terrorist group still maintains active “sleeper cells” in several parts of the country, including Diyala.
