TRIPOLI (AA) - Unidentified gunmen in southern Libya on Monday abducted two Italian nationals and a Canadian working for an Italian airport maintenance company, according to a local official.

"The abducted individuals were doing maintenance on the city’s airport," Qomani Mohamed Saleh, mayor of Libya’s southern city of Ghat (administered by Libya’s unity government), told Anadolu Agency.

"Efforts are ongoing to determine the group responsible for the abductions and the abductees’ whereabouts," he added.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident while the Italian and Canadian governments have yet to comment on the reported incident.

Libya has been roiled by chaos since the ouster and death of strongman Muammar Gaddafi in a 2011 popular uprising.
