2 people killed in fire at Russian munitions plant

Local authorities investigating fire at factory in eastern city of Perm

MOSCOW (AA) - Two people were killed and one was injured in a fire at a munitions plant in eastern Russia on Monday, according to the regional Health Ministry.

The fire broke out last night in the city of Perm, with one employee killed on the spot and two more hospitalized, including one who later died, said a ministry statement.

Local authorities launched an investigation following the accident, whose cause is being explored, the statement added.

The plant is a major producer of ballistic and cruise missiles, shells, and other kinds of weapons and ammunition.

It also manufactures civilian products, including paint, finishing materials, and polyurethane.
