Helicopter crashed in northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh

NEW DELHI (AA) – A military helicopter crashed in northeastern India on Thursday, killing both pilots.

The aircraft was on an “operational sortie” in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh state when it lost contact at 9:15 a.m. (0345GMT), defense spokesperson Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat said in a statement.

Five teams conducted search operations and managed to locate the wreckage.

Both the pilot and co-pilot of the Indian Army Cheetah helicopter were killed, the official said.

He said an inquiry is being launched to ascertain the cause of the accident.​​​​​​​
