KANO, Nigeria (AA) - At least five people, including two policemen, were killed on Saturday when gunmen attacked a police station in Nigeria’s southeastern Imor state, an official said.
In a statement, Michael Abattam, a police spokesman, said armed bandits, suspected to be members of the proscribed Eastern Security Network (ESN) group, attacked the police station Oguta local government area, adding the attack was repulsed and the injured bandits fled to forests.
ESN is the militant arm of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“Meanwhile, police teams are combing the bush to arrest the fleeing bandits,” he said, adding hospitals have been asked to report any person(s) coming for treatment of bullet wounds.
