ISTANBUL (AA) - Prosecutors are seeking jail sentences of up to 22 years for nine defendants accused of negligence that led to the deaths of 10 people in a construction site accident.

The workers were killed in September 2014 when an elevator plummeted from the 32nd floor of a building under construction in the Sisli district of Istanbul.

The defendants are said to have caused death through “conscious negligence”. The prosecutors asked for 16 other defendants to be released after they were cleared in an expert report.

The case was adjourned to May 11.
