Landslide caused by heavy rainfall during Typhoon Megi hits village, destroying ‘several’ buildings

BEIJING (AA) – Chinese authorities said Wednesday that 27 people are missing in eastern Zhejiang province after a landslide hit a village during torrential rains related to Typhoon Megi.

State news agency Xinhua cited the provincial government as saying that “several” houses and buildings were destroyed in Sucun village in Suichang County.

Rescuers have lifted two women -- who are in a stable condition -- from the debris.

A rescue operation involving more than 400 personnel and led by Zhejiang Vice Governor Sun Jingmiao is ongoing.

According to the agency, over 18,000 residents of the area had been evacuated.
