MERSIN, Turkey (AA) – Some 28,000 people in Mersin, southern Turkey are without electricity due to heavy rainfall, but most will have power back within a few days, said Turkey’s development minister Friday.
“Except for five districts [of Mersin], electricity will be restored in about 2-3 days,” said Lutfi Elvan. “EnerjiSA continues to work with a staff of more than 300."
Elvan added that flooding due to the rains has cost two lives, with three others missing.
Disaster relief teams and the Coast Guard are continuing to search for the missing persons, he added.
Mersin, a province in southern Turkey on the Mediterranean coast between Antalya and Adana, can be extremely affected by floods due to heavy rainfall.
