KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) – At least three protesters were killed and scores injured as Sudanese security forces moved in to clear a main protest camp near the army headquarters in the capital Khartoum, according to protest organizers.

The Sudanese Professional Association (SPA) said security forces used excessive force to disperse the sit-in.

“Militias belong to the government have aggressively attacked thousands of civilians in the sit-in,” SPA said in a statement.

Medical sources said at least three protesters were killed as the forces cleared the camp.

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, however, put the death toll at only two.
