JERUSALEM (AA) – Three rockets were fired from Syria toward the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, the Israeli military said on Saturday.

“3 rockets were launched from Syria into Israel a short while ago. 1 of them crossed into Israeli territory and landed in the southern Golan Heights,” the military said in a statement.

“No interceptors were launched, in accordance with policy,” it added.

The rocket fire followed violence escalating across the Palestinian territories after Israeli forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in East Jerusalem and forcibly removed worshippers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Israeli raids on the mosque triggered rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, with Israeli retaliating with air and artillery shelling.

Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights since the 1967 Middle East War.
