DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) – At least three police officers were martyred during an operation against the terrorist PKK organization in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, according to security sources early Friday.

Another officer was wounded during the raid on a house being used as a PKK terror cell in the town of Ergani, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to media.

A terrorist was “neutralized” in the ongoing operation, the sources added.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred, and more than 5,000 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
