GENEVA (AA) – At least 31 people were killed and 80 others injured in an airstrike on a boat carrying Somali migrants, including women and children, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Friday.
“The attack took place in the Red Sea off Yemen, late Thursday,” IOM spokesman Joel Millman told a news conference in Geneva.
Millman said he was unable to confirm if the attack had been carried out by an Apache helicopter gunship.
“The boat packed with Somali migrants was heading to Sudan. So far, at least 31 migrants are confirmed dead,” he said.
Of the 80 people injured, 24 remain in critical condition in hospital.
