ANKARA (AA) – Over 30 people have died after drinking body lotion in a Russian city, the authorities said on Monday.
According to Russia's Investigative Committee, 33 people died of alcohol poisoning in Irkutsk.
The committee said in a statement that although the bottles carried warnings against consumption, the lotion was drank like alcohol.
Following the incident, Mayor Dmitry Berdnikov declared a state of emergency in Irkutsk.
Berdnikov said the sale of all non-food alcohol-containing products was to be prohibited.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Monday the deaths were a "terrible tragedy".
