South Korea’s military will deploy 3,900 troops for the security of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in the coastal city of Gyeongju later this week, local media reported on Tuesday.
Around 3,900 military personnel will be deployed across the country, by land, air, and sea, to ensure security as APEC member delegations gather for the summit in Gyeongju, Yonhap News reported, citing the military.
The troops will be deployed at Gimhae International Airport and other locations in the southern city of Busan, where many leaders and delegations will arrive.
Several gatherings are scheduled to take place in Gyeongju city ahead of the main APEC Economic Leaders' meeting on Friday and Saturday.
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will also arrive in South Korea, where the two leaders are expected to meet.
New Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is also expected to attend the summit.
