KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) - Local activists in Sudan reported four people killed and 10 injured Friday in artillery shelling by the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El-Fasher in the North Darfur state.

"The Rapid Support on Friday afternoon struck the Abu Shouk displacement camp," according to a statement by the El-Fasher Resistance Committee, a group involved in war victim relief efforts.

Another coordination group for displaced people in El-Fasher also confirmed that the RSF struck several parts of the camp at the time of Friday prayers.

The RSF had not issued a response to the statement.

El-Fasher has witnessed months of fierce clashes between the army and the RSF. The city is used by the UN and international aid agencies as a humanitarian operation center for the Darfur region.

The conflict between the army and the RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has resulted in more than 20,000 deaths and displaced 14 million people, according to the UN and local authorities.

Research from US universities, however, estimates the death toll at around 130,000.
