MADRID (AA) - At least five irregular migrants died while trying to reach Spain’s Canary Islands, local media reported.
According to Spanish news agency EFE, a boat carrying 48 irregular migrants from sub-Saharan African countries sank 250 kilometers (155 miles) south of the Canary Islands on Monday and 43 migrants were rescued.
Spanish authorities have recovered the body of one migrant and the search for other four still continues.
The rescued migrants were brought to the Canary Islands.
Since the start of 2021, some 16 migrants have died while trying to reach the Spanish coast from North Africa.
