ISTANBUL (AA) - Five Israeli troops were severely injured Monday during clashes in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli army said.

A military statement said the wounded included an officer from the Medical Corps, an officer from the Armored Corps, and three soldiers from the 82nd Battalion of the 7th Brigade.

“All were severely injured during combat in the northern Gaza Strip,” the army said, without giving details about the circumstances of the clashes.

The Israeli army has been conducting a ground offensive in Gaza City since Aug. 11 under Operation “Gideon’s Chariots 2” to occupy the city. The campaign has included demolishing homes with booby-trapped robots, artillery bombardment, indiscriminate fire, and forced displacement of civilians.

The Israeli army has killed over 66,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. The relentless bombardment has rendered the enclave uninhabitable and led to starvation and the spread of diseases.
