ISTANBUL (AA) - At least five people were killed, and 55 others injured in a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian town of Izium in the northeastern Kharkiv region on Tuesday, officials said.
Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov said in a series of statements on Telegram that five people were killed in the attack, while 55 others were injured, three of whom were children.
According to preliminary information, Russia used a ballistic missile in the strike, which initially killed four and injured 17 others, the governor said.
"We are conducting door-to-door inspections to determine who needs temporary housing or urgent repairs," Synyehubov said, adding that the government has started work to restore the victims' homes.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating that it destroyed part of the city council building.
"This brutality cannot be tolerated. Maximum pressure must be applied to Russia—through military force, sanctions, and diplomacy," Zelenskyy added.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the attack.
