ISTANBUL (AA) - Six people were killed and several others injured on Wednesday when a stampede broke out at a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at El-Wak Sports Stadium in the capital Accra, the military said.
A preliminary investigation showed the stampede was caused by a surge of applicants who rushed the gates ahead of the scheduled 6.20 am (GMT0620) screening, the army said in a statement.
It said the injured from the “unfortunate incident” are receiving emergency treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, with medical teams working to stabilize those affected.
Arrangements are being made to notify the families of the deceased, the army added, extending its “deepest” condolences and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.
