ANKARA (AA) - Nearly 68% of Japanese want Tokyo to pursue a more independent diplomatic stance from the US, a nationwide survey showed on Sunday.
Conducted by the local daily Asahi Shimbun also showed that 24% favor aligning with US intentions.
The survey randomly selected 3,000 voters across Japan and received 1,899 valid responses.
Some 77% of respondents expressed skepticism when asked whether they believed the US would seriously defend Japan in a crisis, according to the survey results.
Only 15% answered affirmatively.
