VAN, Turkey (AA) - As many as 80 Afghan nationals who entered Turkey illegally were held Thursday in the eastern province of Van.

The detentions came after the provincial gendarmerie command noticed a crowd of people during a land search in a rural area near the Karahan neighborhood.

The migrants were transferred to the provincial migration office after routine procedures.

At least eight suspects have so far been arrested for human trafficking.
