Activists demand tougher measures against Islamophobia in Sweden

Demonstrators want measures against increasing racism, Islamophobia

STOCKHOLM (AA) - A protest against Islamophobia and racism was held in Stockholm on Friday.

The demonstration, organized by the "Justice for All" association at Segel Torg Square, demanded measures taken against increasing racism and Islamophobia in the country.

Protesters carried banners that read: "Are politicians innocent while racist terror rises?”, "Together against racism", "Thank migrants for living in Sweden."

In a statement on behalf of organizers, it was emphasized that the protest was a response to a terror attack in Orebro, demonstrating a stand against racism and Islamophobia.

The statement highlighted increasing discrimination and attacks against migrants and Muslims, citing the racist terror attack at a school in Orebro.

"Eight of those killed at the school were migrants, yet the racist attacker, 35-year-old Swedish citizen Rickard Andersson, is being protected, with claims that he is mentally unstable," it said.

To honor the victims who lost their lives at the school, candles were lit and flowers placed at the scene.

The attack took place Feb. 4 at the Risbergska High School.

Eleven people, including the attacker, were killed.

Swedish media published footage showing the attacker shouting, "Get out of Europe!" while opening fire on those around him.
