Africa COVID-19 cases surpass 23,000

Deaths surpass 1,100, says Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) - The tally of infections from coronavirus has risen to 23,505 in Africa, a health authority said Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the death toll climbed to 1,158, said the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in its daily update.

More than 5,800 patients have gone on to make a recovery.

Algeria has reported the most deaths -- 384 -- on the continent.

Morocco has reported 143 fatalities.

In terms of cases, South Africa and Egypt both have registered 3,300 cases each.

Djibouti with a population less than a million has 846 cases and two deaths.

Ethiopia has 111 cases with three deaths.
