ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) - The head of an association of political parties in Africa condemned Turkey’s July 15 coup attempt on Thursday.

Nafei Ali Nafei, general secretary of the Council for African Political Parties, said: “The Turkish government party and opposition parties have shown strong unity against the coup attempt and this indicates political awareness among the opposition groups and the ruling party.”

Turkey’s governing Justice and Development (AK) Party helped establish the council, which embraces around 80 parties from 43 countries, in 2013 and Turkey a major strategic partner of Africa, Nafei added.
