ANKARA (AA) – Al Jazeera journalist Hisham Abdelaziz was released after he was held for almost four years in pre-trial detention in Egypt, the Doha-based news network announced on Monday.
Abdelaziz, an Egyptian journalist who works for Al Jazeera’s Mubasher channel, was released early Monday.
Abdelaziz was among the journalists who were detained in Egypt after the 2013 military takeover that overthrew then-President Mohammed Morsi.
In June 2019, Abdelaziz was arrested while traveling from Qatar to Cairo for a family visit, according to Al Jazeera.
There is no confirmation yet from Egyptian authorities.
Other Al Jazeera journalists Bahaa Eldin Ibrahim and Rabie el-Sheikh still remain in detention in Egypt, according to the Qatari broadcaster.
