ISTANBUL (AA) - The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, announced late Tuesday that they killed and wounded several soldiers in an ambush targeting an Israeli force fortified inside a house in the southern Gaza Strip.
"Our fighters successfully executed a complex ambush targeting a Zionist force entrenched inside a house…in the Old Licensing area south of Khan Younis city," they said in a post on Telegram.
They added that their members targeted the house with automatic weapons, resulting in casualties among the Israeli force, including both dead and wounded.
Al-Qassam also said that they targeted an Israeli Merkava tank with a Shawaz explosive and a 105mm Yasin rocket in the same area.
They did not specify the exact timing of the operation, and there was no immediate response from the Israeli military regarding the incident.
The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing over 56,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
