ALGIERS, Algeria (AA) – Algeria’s new government led by Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad received a vote of confidence Friday from the lower house of parliament.

Speaker Slimane Chenine announced that the People's National Assembly had passed the confidence vote after the government presented its program.

Chenine did not provide any details on the number of those who voted in favor or against the motion.

Before voting commenced, Djerad stressed in his speech that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune would implement the program based on a “new Algeria” and economic diversification away from oil.

The government’s program will be implemented in the coming days after a second vote in the National Assembly, parliament's upper house..
