ATHENS (AA) – Police are searching for a 13-year-old who allegedly trafficked illegal immigrants with a stolen car in northern Greece, local media reported on Monday.
The minor has been driving illegal migrants from Kavala to Thessaloniki for a sum of €350 ($355), a young woman who was in the car with the suspect when it was stopped by police told the state-run news agency AMNA.
The young woman, 17, was arrested on the spot while the 13-year-old boy driver managed to escape. Both are Greek nationals.
She said her younger friend had been persuaded by migrants to transport them to Thessaloniki for money. She said the car was taken without permission from her aunt, but that she was personally unaware of what the car would be used for.
It was unclear whether illegal migrants were in the car when it was stopped, and if so, what happened to them.
They young woman was released in the custody of a legal guardian, while the teenage driver is still being sought by the police.
