KHAN SHAYKHUN, Syria (AA) - Footage captured by Anadolu Agency photographers has revealed the devastation wrought by Tuesday’s suspected chemical attack in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province.
The footage was taken in the immediate aftermath of the attack, which left over 100 people dead -- including women and children -- and another 500 injured.
Video shows destroyed buildings in Idlib’s Khan Shaykhun district in the attack’s immediate aftermath, while panicked residents can be seen grabbing their belongings and fleeing their homes.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, victims of the suspected gas attack described the ordeal.
“The family living next door awoke to the sound of the attack,” survivor Jamil Nahaz, who lost four of his relatives in Idlib, said.
“They all succumbed to the effects of the gas after being rushed to a nearby field hospital,” he recounted, while loading his remaining belongings onto a truck.
“The same thing happened to another family of seven,” he added.
Nahaz is now on his way to the Deir Hassan region near the Turkish border in hopes of finding safety.
