Philadelphia, PENNSYLVANIA (AA) - Anadolu Agency visited the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia in the US state of Pennsylvania, and documented gut-wrenching scenes of drug abuse among the city's homeless population.
The scenes were eerily reminiscent of gritty Hollywood films with long of rows unsheltered people lining the city's streets, many of whom were seen in a cycle of opioid drug abuse.
Kensington has been stuck in the thick of the US's opioid epidemic.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf apologized for the ravages inflicted on the city "hard hit by this crisis" after touring Kensington in September.
"They deserve our help to get quality treatment and support. I am committed to fight for the people and communities harmed by the opioid epidemic," he said.
