JAKARTA, Indonesia (AA) – Anadolu Agency's Indonesian service on Monday received an award from the country’s zakat authority for promoting the giving of alms.
Bambang Soedibyo, the chairman of National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), said the award was given based on quantitative and qualitative assessment standards.
The zakat agency manages the distribution of alms in the country.
As one of the five pillars of Islam, zakat is obligatory on all well-to-do Muslims. They donate 2.5% of their accumulated wealth every year.
