Anadolu photojournalists win World Press Photo awards

Murat Sengul, Ali Jadallah claim prizes for their photos on attacks in Beirut, Gaza

ISTANBUL (AA) - Anadolu photojournalists Murat Sengul and Ali Jadallah won awards at the World Press Photo (WPP) 2025 contest.

In the West, Central, and South Asia - Singles category, the news agency's senior photojournalist Murat Sengul won first place for his image, Drone Attacks in Beirut.

The photo, capturing the anxious moments of people fleeing from buildings in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut due to Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks, was highly praised by the jury.

In the West, Central, and South Asia - Stories category, Anadolu’s photojournalist in Gaza, Ali Jadallah won an award with his series, Gaza Under Israeli Attack.

Jadallah's 10-photo series illustrates Israel’s attacks on Gaza, the destruction in Gaza, displacement, losses, and the fight for survival.

The WPP contest is organized by the Dutch Foundation for Photojournalism with the support of the Dutch royal family.

The awarded photos were selected from over 59,000 entries by 3,778 photographers from 141 countries.

The evaluation was carried out by an independent international jury, which selected 42 winners.

The contest awarded photographs highlighting global issues like conflicts, politics, climate change, and migration.

The 2025 World Press Photo of the Year winner and two finalists will be announced on April 17.
