KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) - The Ebola virus outbreak has claimed the life of one more heath worker in Uganda, a government official said on Monday.
Health Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Ainebyoona told Anadolu agency that John Grace Walugembe, a laboratory technician, died at the Mubende regional referral hospital.
“This brings the total number of health workers who have died of Ebola to 5,” Ainebyoona said.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Ebola is transmitted through contact with the blood, stool or fluids of an infected person and objects that have been contaminated with body fluids from an infected person.
A total of 58 Ebola cases have been recorded in Uganda since the country declared its latest outbreak on Sept. 20. On Saturday, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni announced a lockdown in Mubende and Kassanda districts where Ebola cases are concentrated.
