BEIRUT, Lebanon (AA) – A Lebanese depositor stormed a bank in the capital Beirut on Monday to demand the withdrawal of his money amid a deep economic crisis in the country.

The incident took place in a branch of Byblos Bank on Hamra Street in downtown Beirut, but security forces intervened to bring the situation under control, the National News Agency reported.

Last month, Lebanon saw at least eight holdups by depositors demanding access to their accounts, with some managing to recover some of their frozen funds.

Lebanon has been grappling with a severe economic crisis since 2019, leaving most people locked out of their bank accounts due to informal capital controls imposed by lenders.
