LONDON (AA) - Supermarkets across Britain are currently seeing empty shelves due to the supply issues for fresh products, which has led to rationing of some fruits and vegetables.
Aldi has become the latest supermarket that is left with empty shelves for some vegetables, following other chains like Asda and Morrisons.
Located in North London, an Aldi store was left with empty shelves particularly for tomatoes and cucumbers.
Although there are reports that Aldi has introduced a temporary limit of three packages for each customer for some vegetables, a staff from the Aldi store confirmed the shortages but said there is currently no limit.
Aldi is the UK’s fourth largest supermarket with over 990 stores across the country which already announced that they would open the 1000th store in this year, according to its website.
Bad weather-related harvest problem in North Africa and Spain was reportedly among the reasons behind the supply issue that left shelves empty.
"At the moment poor weather conditions in Spain and Morocco have disrupted harvest for some fruit and vegetables including tomatoes and peppers, but rest assured retailers are doing all they can to sort it," the British Retail Consortium said on Tuesday.
