Armed attack kills 20 in Nigeria’s north

Attack targets Kurmin Masara, Apyia Shyim, Takmawai communities in Kaduna state, local media report


ANKARA (AA) - More than 20 people were killed and several others wounded in fresh armed attacks by a suspected militia targeting three Nigerian communities in the northern Kaduna State, local media reported on Thursday.

The attack which took place in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area targeted the communities of Kurmin Masara, Apyia Shyim, and Takmawai, according to local Daily Post website.

According to Elias Manza, the chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, the attackers are suspected to be from Fulani militia.

The attackers invaded the villages on Thursday morning and opened fire indiscriminately at residents’ houses, leaving seven people dead in Takmawai and 13 others in Kurmin Masara in what appears to be a coordinated attack, he said.

He went on to say that the attack left several houses burnt, forcing residents to flee from their houses to nearby villages.

The attack occurred only few days after security agencies were deployed to the state’s vulnerable communities, according to the Daily Post.
